Kathu lies in the centre of the island and has both a traditional old village, as well as more modern areas that make up the rest of the town.

Kathu Travel Guide | Kathu spreads from the edge of Phuket Town westward towards Patong and is mainly a residential area with a lot of locals and expats choosing to make it their home. This is due to its quiet atmosphere and convenience, however with being connected to major thoroughfares it offers easy access across the whole island.

A few notable points of interest in Kathu include the beautiful structure that is Wat Kathu, a small Buddhist temple of intricate design and another is Kathu Shrine. This Chinese temple has seen some extensive reconstruction over the years to renovate it to its former glory and contains historical artefacts, such as Taoist deities. It is also the birthplace of the Phuket Vegetarian Festival.

Patong is Phuket’s party town and a whole lot more. With its idyllic location on the west coast of the island, it is an ever expanding beach town that continuously adds to its extensive range of bars, cafés, nightclubs, restaurants and shopping facilities.

Patong Travel Guide | One of Patong’s big draws is its beach. This long stretch of white sand extends three kilometres and attracts tons of tourists to it shores. The town is also renowned for its unrivalled shopping opportunities with big malls, boutique-style stores, side street stalls and vendors selling all things imaginable.

Patong has garnered a world-wide reputation for its vibrant nightlife and energetic atmosphere that can be found nowhere else on the isle. Traffic jams occur in the early evenings when office workers leave Patong and the night time workers and party goers start arriving. Patong is also the location of one of Phuket’s main hospitals – Patong Hospital, which can be found along Sainamyen Road.

Kamala is located north of Patong and is another west coast beach town on Phuket. Once a quiet Muslim fishing village, it still maintains a sense of tranquillity and is ideal for those who prefer a peaceful environment.

Kamala Travel Guide | The road that enters Kamala’s main thoroughfare from Patong is quite large with four lanes and several sets of traffic lights, making it easy to believe that there isn’t much to see. However, there is a left turn just at the bottom of the hill as you enter that will lead you to an enticing piece of paradise along the beachfront.
